Schani’s Urid Dal or white lentils, are basically a split and skinned version of black gram. A common and popular legume in South-Asian cooking, that will enrich your everyday cuisine!

- 100% authentic urid dal white lentils

- Affordable superfood: natural source of dietary fibre, iron & proteins

- Perfect for crispy lentil fritters, papadams & thick soups

- Suitable for vegans and vegetarians

Colour & Taste: Urid dal are creamy white in colour and have a milder flavour than whole black grams. They taste delicious as they adapt the flavours of the spices they are cooked with – be it refreshingly gingery or mildly seasoned.

Versatile Usage: Our urid dal are commonly used for making South Indian crispy and savoury dosa pancakes, papadams, soups, idlis and dahi vadas lentil fritters. Or, for tempering savoury rice and South Indian chutneys. And perfect for dishing out a warm bowl of dal, too! Alternatively, use your urid dal to bring a warm and nutty flavour to your homemade curries. One little lentil coming in many forms!

Nutritious & Stimulating: Urad or urid dal are a God-send when it comes to healthy eating! They are full of soluble and insoluble fibre that benefit your gut. And with a good amount of iron, they are said to keep anaemia at bay, too. Schani has the highest quality of dal, not only picked and packed with love, but rich in essential nutrients, dietary fibre and protein.

Cooking Time: Cook your urid dal white lentils in an instant pot for 8-10 minutes, in a pressure cooker it will only take you four whistles, whilst slow cooking will require up to four hours. Wash and rinse your lentils thoroughly prior to cooking, and soak them for at least 30 minutes to four hours for optimal results.

Storage: Like any dried bean, our urid dal should be kept in an airtight, dry container in the pantry or another cool, dark spot.
